Wearing Post 2

A big part of being human is to be able to have the freedom to do what goes along with your beliefs, as well as make your own decisions not based on instinct. If you feel that something your instinct is telling you to do is wrong, to be human you would have to change that action to follow your beliefs. Animals ussaully dont have the power to overide thier instincts and make thier own desicions, and to have that power taken away from you is to make you a lesser human and more like an animal.
In the book Sold, Mumtaz forces Lakshmi to stay at the brothel and sleep with the men. This goes against all Lakshmi's beliefs and the beliefs of her family. Mumtaz also forces Lakshmi to go against all her instincts by threatening her with torture if she ever tries to leave the brothel. she also lies to Lakshmi and tells her before she goes home she must pay off the debt that she owes Mumtaz, but Mumtaz keeps adding to the debt so Lakshmi will never be able to leave. Mumtaz strips away some of Lakshmi's humanity by forcing her to go against her beliefs by sleeping with the men. She also takes away the part of animal that Lakshmi has left by forcing her not to follow her instincts.

  2. By: Cade Yongue. I really like how you go into beliefs and how that plays a part in the book, as well as her animal instincts in fighting back and how Mumtaz takes it from her and she loses her bark/ bite. It really flows because of the images you draw from the book

  3. By: Sarah Davidson. I also really liked how you talked about having freedom that goes along with your beliefs and how if we don't have our freedom then it makes us like animals. The 2 paragraphs go well together and i like how you go into depth about what Mumtaz does.
