Sir Camden Clement Dowd Post Number 2

Human Beings haven’t been on the earth for too much time. Every year something new is discovered, and every so often people as a whole change the way they act. They do this with laws, and the understanding of right and wrong. In reality, to be human means that you have a brain, heart body parts and everything that creates the physical appearance and inner appearance of a human. However, people have believed that there is a certain way to act in order to be human. In my personal opinion, I believe that there is no correct way to be human, however you perceive it is the way it is for you. This is because in different parts of the world people act and believe different things. In America, people may believe one thing, and in Afghanistan people may believe something else. For me, being human means that you must be able to want things in your life and strive to get them. We all want something, whether it’s a job, or a game. It is just human nature to want things and try our best to get those things that we truly want. We do not always get what we want, but we figure out in our heads the best way to get it. This happens with everybody.

In Sold, a novel by Patricia McCormick, the main character, and person telling the story, Lakshmi wants few things in her life. She lives in a small hut in a small village on a mountain with her mother, Ama, her stepfather, and her baby brother. From the very first page she expresses one of her main wants, a tin roof. With the tin roof they would be better off, and she keeps thinking about and bringing up the fact that she wants the tin roof. She believes, and knows that they will be better off with the tin roof. Another want of hers that she doesn’t express, is that she wishes for Ama and herself to be treated better off then they already are, especially Ama. All of her wants relate to the topic of living better and more comfortable. She thinks of ways to make all of these happen, hoping that they will.
