There are so many different answer that can come out of the question, what it means to be human. In my opinion, to be human, is to make mistakes. have feelings, and to do things that make you happy, and some you would rather not do. Everyone makes mistakes, that is just how life is, that is what makes us human. Making mistakes lets us learn from our own experiences, rather than just hearing or reading about it. Another big part of being human is having feelings, whether that be happiness, anger, sadness, joy, or just feeling strongly about something. Everyone has feelings, that is what we base our relationships off of with people, if we like someone, we become their friend, or if we don't then we stay away, it's normal that way. The last main thing about being human is both getting to do things you want to do, but also having to do things you don't. We all get to have some fun in life, but then we also have to do what needs to get done.

Lakshmi is very human, we can tell this by the way she acts. First off, she makes mistakes, the main one being how she let herself be sent off to the city to "work". Then, along with that, she clearly has feelings, she loves her family, and would do anything to make them happy, even if that means leaving them. She shows disappointment when she finds out that her father had taken her cucumbers to sell them. An obvious example of feelings is the first time she is sent to go do her "work" and she goes running out of the room soon after the man walks in, she is showing passion, and stating how she doesn't wish to do so. We all know Lakshmi likes sweets, she is very happy when she gets them, she enjoys eating sweets, and taking care of her cucumbers, and playing with her goat, these are things she likes to do. There are also things that she hates to do, such as her job, and she hates being in the city, and putting on makeup, but some things have to be done. Lakshmi is very human.
