Being human is about facing difficulties in life that make you realize what is right and wrong and good and bad. Being Human is about realizing things from the mistakes that other people do. Being Human is a way to show people how you are going to be different than any one else because we are all human, but each human is a different person and the way that you show your a different person is believing in your own beliefs, facing difficulties that make you who you are. Being human is the essential need to journey through life.
Lakshmi is treated like she isn’t worth anything, but it makes her dedicated to becoming her own person without anyone telling her what to do. Lakshmi’s step father only cares about money and wealth and treats Lakshmi as though she is a cucumber outside their hut. Lakshmi say’s, “ When he looks, he sees cigarettes and rice beer, a new vest for himself. I see a tin roof.”(p.2) This shows that this man cares more about him self than putting a sustainable roof under his family’s heads. He’s a selfish man that hasn’t understood the meaning of being human.
