S. Demesmaker Blog 3

Sold by Patricia McCormick holds many different tones, on one end of the spectrum it is hopeful mainly at the beginning of the novel, on the other it is cold and sad. To find a happy medium, and in my opinion the most prominent tone in the book i would say is naive and innocent. The fact that at the beginning Lakshmi thinks she id going to work as a maid, and doesn't understand why she is being treated the way she is, needing to call her "uncle" husband, and how they got her a skimpy new dress, shows the innocence of the girl. I don't know if it is just because Lakshmi is so young, or because she purely doesnt understand the world around her, but her innocent tone of makes the reader feel that much more connected, and that much more sorry for Lakshmi.
