J Day's second post

Being human means many things. No one has a real complete answer to it as everyone has their own opinion about who and what we are. I think that being human is about having for each other. Not having respect doesn't make you human but knowing what respect is and to cherish it makes us human. Everyone has respect for something. Being human also means to not be perfect and to always want more. Some humans may have nothing and will obviously want more, even humans who have everything always want more.

In the book Sold, by Patricia McCormick, the main character Lakshmi is brought up in a poor hut in a village in India. Her step father has no respect for them and does nothing helpful for anyone. Lakshmi's mom Ama, does what women have done for ever and obeyed their husband in any way he asked. Lakshmi is just growing up and Ama explains to her how much a women does for the husband and why they do it. Lakshmi shows herself being human as she wants something, its not much but a new tin roof. She mentions from the first page that it shows how if they had one that her step father wouldn't be gambling their things away and things would be better.
