Being Human means to be capable of feeling. To be able to feel hatred, and guilt, but also be able to feel love and joy. We are all part something bigger, something that ties us all together with the world. Being human means to question life. We try so hard to understand the meaning of life, that sometimes i wonder if to be alive, to be a human, could mean not knowing.  To be left in the darkness of our own thoughts. Science can prove DNA and cells, but to uncover a mysterious force of nature, will take much more then a scientist.

The oppressor in "Sold" is the Prostitution Business. It has stripped Lakshmi of her innocence, integrity, and her will. Her whole entire life she has been a regular girl, with regular wishes and dreams. She feels hatred towards her step father, for gambling their money away. She feels love for her mother, who cares for her. She feels curiosity for the boy she will one day marry. But once Lakshmi is taken to the city, she is robbed of every emotion she once could feel. Mumtaz drugs her. Men rape her. The room which she is trapped in isolates her from the rest of the world. Lakshmi is hanging on the string of humanity. All she has left is her determination to reclaim the life she once had.

  1. Completely true that all humans are capable of feeling. Our emotions make us connect to other humans, and to feel what others feel. Since all humans can feel, all humans know what it's like to feel, and we can put ourselves into other's shoes.
