Shane Cooney Post Number 3!

Patricia McCormick writes Sold in a very deep Somber way, to emphasize the struggle in certain parts of the world . I believe that a lot of her narration for the characters, or what's going on inside their heads, really is depressing, melodic, and disturbing. I believe that the whole message of the book, not only just the prostitution and the poverty, but just the lifestyle these people have to go through. For example I would like to reflect to the beginning of the book, " A tin roof means that the family has a father who doesn't gamble away the landlords money playing cards in the tea shop. A tin roof means the family has a son working at the brick kiln in the city. A tin roof means that when the rains come, the fire stays lit and the baby stays healthy." That whole paragraph really paints some sad, exhaled pictures. I really think that the authors point was to expose readers to the hardness of the world.

  1. Hi Shane my name is Dr. Bursten,
So what do you think about Lakshmi's view on the world. From my calculations and by my calculations I of course mean reading the book. Lakshmi has a auspicious view on the world. Here are some examples of that. When Lakshmi is taken into the city by her uncle/pimp she is very happy to be there and cant wait to send back her earnings and food to her family back home.

Obviously I definitely agree with your point about Patricia (the writer) putting a gloomy/somber tone into the story but i have to disagree and say that at the point where i am in the book Lakshmi has a fairly good out look on things.

    Well good day sir
