Emily Dodge Post #2

Behind all of our appearances, the lies we tell, and who we try to be, there are our morals and the truth behind who we are. Being human means that you accept who you are. Despite what may be a horrible situation of life, you accept that that's what you have. Being human is also having your rights to your personal space and mind. Nobody is intruding your thoughts, and corrupting your life. Humanity is determined in many different aspects by many people all throughout the world. Human nature doesn't allow us to act of our "maturity" at all times, but being human nearly forces you to "grow up." Being human means you have the opportunity (with your own decision to do so) to make your own decisions, and take a "leap of faith."
Lakshmi was stripped of her humanity, from her cruel step father who at one period of time, had been stripped of his. His mirror action to take Lakshmi's humanity like his had been, shows his lack of maturity. He made a decision to treat his wife's daughter as anything but a human. To him, she was merely a goat. A goat. From no money, to losing all of their crops, the step father completely stole her humanity, and sold her. He gave her into prostitution, which in Nepal is not taking very seriously. Taking away the human in her lead her into NEEDING to forget about the abuse she was enduring, and the rape that was being forced into her. The last bit of humanity that she actually managed to keep ahold of was being torn away from her every waking day. "It feels like the end of the world. If only it were" (209). Does that sound human to you?

  1. I completely agree with you about how girls in Nepal are treated as if they are not human, and how when your the male figure in these parts of he world, your the only one who gets to make choices. All the examples you gave really showed how inhumane women are treated.

  2. Your point about Lakshmi's stepfather seeing Lakshmi as nothing more important than a goat was a great example how a lot of women's humanity is stripped in those certain situations and places throughout the world. All of your statements and examples make a large point in how women can be thought of and treated with such inhumanity.
