The main character Lakshmi is a human by every definition but slavery. Slavery is not a human characteristic. Slavery is animalistic, there is nothing humane about slavery or prostitution. In the book sold Lakshmi is dragged into slavery and prostitution. It is horrible things like this are going on around the world and they need to be stopped. It is neither ethical not humane.

I completely agree with your definition of a human. It is the ability to process information and then judge it that makes us unique. Animals can feel anger and sadness as well. However there is one characteristic thatI believe sets us apart from other animals, laughter. A wolf will howl when it babies are killed and often attack their killer in anger, however, it does not laugh when it discovers its pups were only playing.
